Brand Spotlight: Maybelline Top 3
Maybelline has been around for 104 years. It was created by a 19-year-old chemist named Thomas Williams in 1915. He watched his sister, Maybel, apply Vaseline to enhance her brows and lashes. He added coal ash to darken her brows and lashes, creating a pomade called Maybelline Cake Mascara which he named after his sister.
Initially only available through mail-order, women began asking for the mascara at their local drugstore making Maybelline the drugstore fixture it remains today.
Below are my Top 3 recommendations from the brand as well as a couple of honorable mentions. What you won’t see on my list is the iconic pink/green tube mascara that apparently is a favorite of the masses but I have never got the hype. I’ve tested it numerous times over the years but it doesn’t rate for me.
Fit Me Foundation – In particular, I love the Dewy+Smooth formulation for my dry skin. The entire Fit Me range including Fit Me Concealer is fantastic and exemplifies high-quality gems to be found in the drugstore. Fit Me foundation is a light to medium coverage base and doesn’t oxidize.
Instant Age Rewind Concealer – Arguably the best product in the entire Maybelline range, and a cult favorite, for sure one of my favorite concealers of all time. This is the concealer I recommend most for someone looking for a top drugstore concealer. It covers dark circles, brightens the under-eye, and does not crease.
Master Prime Hydrate + Smooth Primer – Maybelline makes about six primers at the moment. This is the one I rate the best for its weightless formula and blurring effect on the skin under makeup.
Lasting Drama Matte Eyeliner – For a long-lasting, deeply pigmented, no-budge matte liner, I love these for $4.99.
The Falsies Volume Mascara – My personal favorite mascara choice from Maybelline is The Falsies in Blackest Black for black, fluttery lashes.
