Below are my current favorite eyeliner formulations and shades. All of them meet my criteria: creamy and richly pigmented, apply very smoothly, don’t tug on the eyes, and last all day.
Quality eyeliners will last quite some while others dry up rapidly. If you have an eyeliner that you haven’t used in a while, do err on the side of caution and sharpen it before you apply it to your eye to avoid any irritation.
Best Color Selection
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils – I love the 24/7 pencils and have the purple, green, blue and black shades in Voodoo, Lust, Stash, Covet, Crash, Sabbath, and Zero. Sabbath is my favorite. I have a thing for dark navy blue eyeliner as an alternative to black and own a few variations. Available at Ulta.
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner – I have two blue shades that I love, Bluefin and Sapphire. These do not budge. Available at Ulta.
It Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner – The black is the blackest black! You’ll need the correct eye makeup remover. This formula stays for days. Available at Ulta.
KIKO Everlasting Kajal – The smoothest, inky, jet black kajal I’ve found. Perfect for the waterline. Available at KIKO.
Maybelline Lasting Drama Matte Eyeliner – I love these matte finish liners. I have the brick red shade, Rusty Terracotta. In general, Maybelline makes quality liners and they have many formulations to choose from. Available at drugstores.
Best Gel Formulation
Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel – I’m a longtime fan of Inglot and these gel liners in a pot are awesome. The color selection is cool and they have real staying power. Available at Inglot.
Best Nude / Waterline
NYX Wonder Pencil – To brighten my tired eyes, I reach for this. They have a few shades to choose from and none of them are too white which can make a person look weird. Available at drugstores.
