Makeup Favorites: January 2020
My current makeup favorites include the best BB cream on the market, in my opinion, Missha BB cream, and other longtime favorites.
Missha Signature BB Cream – I’m still using retinol at night in heavy rotation thus avoiding foundation these past few months. When my face is retinol-induced flakey, a BB cream is my preferred choice. This is my favorite brand of BB cream. I’ve used it for years. It is a sheer to medium coverage BB cream. It smooths my complexion, gives my skin an understated glow, and protects with an SPF 25 which is adequate during New England winter months. I use shade 21 for my fair skin.
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – A solid choice for under eyes. It’s lightweight and doesn’t crease. I use shade 2 in Cool Medium which has a slight peachy tone to help cover dark circles.
Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer – If I’m looking more pale than usual, I reach for my favorite bronzer. It’s sheer, light and I appreciate the subtleness of this cool-toned bronzer. I use the lightest shade, Bronzer.
Tangee Blush – I’ve recently re-discovered this blush that supposedly changes color with your skin but since it always looks the same on me, I can’t really tell. You only need a light hand for a sheer coral application.
Sleek Highlighting Palette in Solstice – This affordable palette has three powder highlighters and one cream. Truthfully, I never reach for the lavender shade. It’s not my taste but the others are rich and buttery.
Rimmel London Millionaire Eyeshadow – A long-time favorite single eyeshadow of mine is this taupe-brown-gold shade with its buttery texture. It is so easy to apply and I wear it alone or under other shadows. It’s extremely affordable and dependable.
Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Wanderlust – A favorite topper of mine is this gorgeous pink and gold shimmer that takes your eye look from maybe a three to ten instantly.
Eve Pearl Eye Palette Ultimate Eyes – I adore this little palette especially for traveling. Mostly, I use the top row and one of the darker shades in the outer corner for definition. It’s very versatile and the color payoff is strong.
Kiko Milano Everlasting Kajal Eyeliner – A much-loved favorite is this jet-black kajal eyeliner that will.not.budge.
Essence Get Big Lashes Mascara – Princess Lash by Essence is my all-time favorite mascara. I ran out recently and decided to try a few others in their range. This one gives you volume but this fat brush can be unwieldy. It took me a few days to master it.
Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows Eyebrow Gel – For brows, I’ve been reaching for this tinted brow gel with the teeniest, tiniest brush I’ve ever seen. It helps keep my brows in place without leaving them feeling crunchy. I use the dark brown shade, Super Model.
Carmex Lip Balm – Most days, I just reach for lip balm to feed my Carmex addiction. Some days, I’ll apply lipstick on top.
MAC Dark Side Lipstick – I’ve been wearing this deep berry shade when I use the Rimmel Millionaire shadow either on its own or with the Stila topper. However, I sheer it out as a stain rather than a full-on opaque application. Either way, it’s a beautiful and rich color.
Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Lip Balm in Heftiest Hibiscus – Days when I reach for the Eve Pearl palette, I like this coral shade with the pink and gold eyeshadows in the palette. These intense Chubby Sticks are rich in color but moisturizing and smooth.
