Makeup Favorites: November 2019
My current makeup favorites include the Modern Renaissance Palette, still, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, and other longtime favorites.
My makeup no buy
This is the 11th month of my no-buy makeup year. Most importantly, it has been a most effective challenge forcing me to firstly, be grateful for, and secondly, use up the makeup I already own before buying anything new.
This year, I have allowed myself to purchase replacements only or if I have completely run out of a particular kind of makeup. Therefore, the only things I have purchased are mascara and lip balm.
Above all, it’s been gratifying to finally hit pan on big palettes, declutter old and unused makeup, and rediscover makeup that had been forgotten in the back of the drawer.
These are my favorite autumn makeup products, shades, combinations, and formulations.
Smashbox Radiance Primer – This is a sheer, rose gold primer that gives off a subtle glow which I like sometimes under foundation.
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation – I love this sheer foundation for my dry skin. Although the name contains the word glow, it’s not particularly luminous. I would call it a satin finish. I wear the shade Gobi Light 3
NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer – I love this non-cakey $6.00 concealer from NYX.
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge – This is my preferred technique and sponge for applying foundation. I have a Beauty Blender but this one is cheaper and better in my opinion. Mine is starting to come apart and I should think about replacing it soon. It’s currently on sale at Ulta for $3.59 if you want to scoop one up.
Bobbi Brown Cream Eyeshadow in Beach Bronze – I’ve been using this copper-toned cream shadow on its own and as a base. A copper shade is perfect for fall and neutral enough to match any clothing. These little pots appear to have been discontinued, a similar one here.
Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush – For years, this has been my favorite synthetic brush for applying cream eye shadow. The tapered shape is perfect for blending cream shadows or eye primers.
Golden Ochre & Burnt Orange from Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette – I’ve been using these two mustard/orange shades to blend out the copper cream shadow.
Hakuhodo J5522 Eye Shadow Brush – For blending shadows, this is a long-time favorite brush. Available online.
Inglot Eyeshadow Quad – Over the cream base, I’ve been using these reds and violets from Inglot. Inglot makes some of the highest quality shadows you can buy. Also, creating your own palette is fun.
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Voodoo – I love this purple liner. Looks like this shade is closest to Psychedelic Sister. I will buy it when this one is used up.
NYX Wonder Pencil in Light/Clair – I use this in the water line to brighten my tired eyes.
Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer – This light bronzer has a very slight gold shimmer throughout and warms up my complexion ever so slightly.
Sephora Pro Brush 55 – I like this soft fluffy brush for applying bronzer.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Celebrated – I adore these blush shades and finishes by Tarte. I wish they wouldn’t discontinue my favorite colors. This nude-pink, Exposed, is close to Celebrated and perfect for my pale skin.
Hakuhodo Blush Brush – My go-to blush brush is this Japanese gem by Hakuhodo. Available online.
Laura Geller Illuminator in Gilded Honey – A subtle yet still noticeable highlighter. I own maybe four highlighters and feel they could last me the rest of my life. This one is beautiful.
e.l.f. Brow Pencil – This $2.00 brow pencil is the bomb.
essence Lash Princess Mascara – I’ve been banging on about this $5 mascara going on two years. It’s the best!
These eye drops: Gamechanger
Bausch + Lomb Lumify Eye Drops – For brighter and whiter eyes instantly, try this. It might be my favorite discovery of 2019.
Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer – This is a newer discovery. It contains tiny fibers and definitely makes brows look fuller.
Revlon Photoready Prep, Set, Refresh – A quality drugstore setting spray is this from Revlon.
Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss in Papa Don’t Peach – I’ve been using this gloss for years. I like to use it sheer and on its own or with a lipstick on top. It plumps slightly without the pain of some plumping glosses.
MAC Lipstick in Whirl – I love this dirty rose shade over the top of gloss. It matches any eye look.
Burt’s Bees Lipstick in Blush Ripple – I enjoy the formulation, color, and smell of this lipstick however, mine has started to crystallize. If you’re the type that buys lipstick and uses it up quickly, I highly recommend Burt’s Bees. I’m not sure if I got one from a bad batch or I just took too long to use it up.
