Makeup Favorites – September 2019
2019 is my low-buy year in a dedicated effort to use, utilize, and be grateful for the things I already own, but when it comes to makeup and skincare, it is strictly, no-buy. I’m buying replacements only while I use up what I have. Therefore, I’ve been digging into the deep recesses of my makeup cupboard to bring new attention to long-forgotten products. I’ve decluttered some items which brings me closer to curating my material world including makeup. These are some of my favorite makeup products currently.
Maybelline Master Prime – I like to use this thin white cream base in my T-zone. It’s weightless and gives a slight dewy effect.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation in Fair Beige – I’ve gone back to this very sheer and lightweight foundation. It looks terrible on me when applied with a brush but looks sheer and natural when I press it into my skin with a sponge.
Cellabel Recovery Balm – I love this Korean BB cream with SPF 28 for quick makeup days when I don’t want to wear foundation. It has a slight gray-beige tint like most Korean BB creams do that blends into the skin for a little coverage + SPF.
it Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer in Light / Ultra Fair – I love this concealer for covering darkness in the inner corner of my eye. It’s thick and full coverage so I wouldn’t use it under my entire eye area. It would crease on me. I have the wrong shade for my skin tone. The shade Ultra Fair is so light it’s practically white but it’s worth it to keep using it. I just add a touch of foundation or darker concealer over the top. I’ll choose one shade darker next time.
YSL Touche Eclat All-Over Brightening Pen – Technically this is a brightener and not a concealer but I use it in place of a concealer sometimes. I wouldn’t use both this and a concealer on my skin because I think it would crease. I love this clicky pen for traveling and for an afternoon touch-up. My shade has worn off but it’s one of the lightest ones. An all-time favorite product.
Chella Dazzling Dark Brown Eyebrow Pencil – I wanted to include this obscure eyebrow pencil that I received in a gift box. I was surprised by how much I like this. Its tip is needle-thin and unlike many brow pencils on the market. I found it on Amazon and not surprisingly, it gets high reviews.
Essence Make Me Brow in Browny Brows – I’m still using this $2.99 brow gel. It’s so good. I use it alone or over a pencil.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Stash – I’ve been wearing a lot of brown, gold and khaki eyeshadows lately and this khaki green eyeliner is a solid fit.
COLOR TATTOO Leather 24hr Cream Gel Eye Shadow in Deep Forest – As much as I love these color tattoos to use as an eye shadow base, they dry out so fast, I end up wasting a lot of product and money. This is partly my fault for having too many cream shadow bases in rotation such as MAC Paint Pots that others get neglected and dry up. This inky-gray-green shade, Deep Forest, is my jam.
INGLOT Eye Shadows – I put this palette together myself years ago at Inglot. They remain to be some of my favorite shadows. I love the formulation and payoff. I’ve moved this palette into plain sight so I will reach for it more often.
KIKO Milano Eyeshadow in Infinity – This brown eye shadow with gold shimmer is one of my favorite single shadows. It’s easily a one-shadow look or in conjunction with others. Something similar here.
L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in Sahara Treasure – Another favorite line of single eyeshadows is the Infallible line by L’Oreal. They are rich, creamy and very pigmented. I love this khaki-gold shade.
L.A. Girl Blush in Just Natural – This blush is included in my makeup Hall of Fame. It’s a beautiful soft coral blush that looks pretty and applies silky smooth. It’s only $5.99 for a lot of product. It will probably last years. It is also cruelty-free. Very good!
Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter by The Balm– An oldie but goodie. I dug this out in on ongoing effort to use up some of the makeup I have had the longest.
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in Medium – Not only is this an excellent bronzer because it is completely matte and not orange,
Givenchy Lipstick in Magnolia Organza – I like to refer to this red/hot pink shade as Granny’s lipstick. It’s a little bold, a little out-dated but still kind of great. I don’t reach for it often. The “correct” neutral eye look is required to make this work but it makes me smile.
Besame Lipstick in 1969 – I like this dusty rose shade by Besame. Besame hits it out of the park every time.
Vicks VapoRub – I had a cold this summer and have kept this on my nightstand to use as a nighttime lip balm. It smells like my childhood.
