Eyeshadow Palette Q&A

I’ve been watching the eyeshadow palette tag videos created by Samantha March and Allie Glines and felt inspired to audit my own stash.
At the beginning of 2019, I embarked on a low-buy year purchasing replacements only of bath and beauty products as a means of using up the product inventory I had on hand. When in came to makeup, I bought items once I ran out such as mascara and foundation but I had plenty of shadows, blushers, and lip products to meet my needs throughout the year. I didn’t buy an eyeshadow palette for a year and a half.
A low-buy challenge is a terrific mechanism for using up all the household products that tend to accumulate under sinks and in cupboards. It reminds us to be less wasteful and more grateful for the things we already own. I highly recommend it.
Streamlining my makeup collection is a work in progress but I have decluttered quite a bit. Doing this palette tag gave me the opportunity to assess my palette situation and I tag you to do it as well.
• show your newest palette

e.l.f Bite-Size Eyeshadow Palette – These little 4-pan palettes from e.l.f. are fantastic. Not only is the quality excellent, but it only cost $3! Incredible!
• show your oldest palette

Too Faced Summer Eyes – I bought this palette in 2012. It’s time to declutter it for sure but I haven’t been able to part with it. I got a lot of use out of it. I love the color story.

• show your most expensive palette

By Terry Magnet Eyes – These Eye Designer Palettes retail for $95. It’s the most I’ve ever spent on a palette, and while I love this color story and quality, I wouldn’t buy another one. There are too many affordable, high-quality eyeshadow palettes on the market today.
• show your most affordable palette

Rimmel Magnif’Eyes Palette – One of the best deals in the drugstore. For $7, you get a quality palette of 12 eyeshadows. The spice palette is my favorite.
• show your everyday palette

Urban Decay Shattered Face Palette – This was a limited edition palette from a few years ago. It looks a little boring compared to the rest of my palettes but I can always rely on this for an easy eye look that compliments any outfit.

• show your most colorful palette

Ben Nye Lumiere Grande Color Palette – I love the yellows, golds, and purple shades in this palette. I forget I have it sometimes and need to get more use out of it. Ben Nye specializes in stage makeup. The color payoff is intense.
• show your smallest palette

Charlotte Tilbury The Dolce Vita – The e.l.f palette above is quite small as well but I wanted to include another one that is small and compact. I like the neutral shades in The Dolce Vita palette and it’s great for travel. There are many to choose from.
• show your biggest palette

Kat Von D Saint & Sinner Palette – This palette is big and cumbersome. I never take it anywhere. I do reach for it often and like the challenge of creating eye looks with this collection of shades.

• show your palette with the best memory

Too Faced Star Dust – This limited edition palette was my go-to palette a few summers ago when I was traveling a lot. I have many fun memories of that time and I used this palette for both daytime and nighttime eye looks.
• show a palette worth the hype

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance – Definitely worth the hype. I love this palette. I can get numerous eye looks from this one from neutral to colorful. Worth every penny of $42.

• show a palette not worth the hype

Urban Decay Jean-Michael Basquiat – This was a limited edition palette featuring the art of Jean-Michel Basquiat. I got sucked in because of my appreciation for Basquiat and the packaging. It wasn’t worth the hype because the color payoff on some of the shadows is terrible and quite unlike Urban Decay, generally speaking. I still get some use out of it but it was disappointing.

• show your favorite palette from a favorite brand

INGLOT – INGLOT has remained one of my favorite makeup brands for years. I love the Freedom System build-your-own-palettes. The shade range is exceptional. Individual shadows are affordable, and the quality is superb.
• show your most used palette

Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions – As you can see, I absolutely love this little palette. The shades are beautiful and high-quality. It’s compact and great for travel. I’d love to get another one from this collection.
