Night Time Skincare Routine Alternating Retinol & Rosacea Treatment
A night time skincare routine that incorporates Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide for treating acne, Retinol, and Azelaic Acid for treating rosacea on alternate nights.
Night Time Skincare Routine
Step 1: Cleanse
Cetaphil Gentle Makeup Remover – I don’t care for Cetaphil’s popular cleanser. It contains no skincare benefits. However, I do rate this makeup remover. Removes all eye makeup and it’s less than $10 at Target.
DERMA-E Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Wash – I love this Salicylic acid cleanser. It has a gel consistency that allows me to really work it into my T-zone where I tend to have the most clogged pores. $15.50 at Ulta.
Step 2: Treat
QRxLabs Niacinamide + Retinol Serum – QRxLabs is an excellent affordable skincare brand that places the focus on active ingredients and no fuss packaging much like The Ordinary and Inkey List. This is a non-irritating and effective night time serum. $15 online.
5 % Niacinamide (B3) minimizes redness and blotchiness, treats hyperpigmentation, and minimizes pore appearance.
Retinol: Retinol is a derivative of prescription-strength tretinoin or Retinoic acid and therefore tends to be less irritating. Retinol increases skin cell turnover and stimulates collagen production.
Finacea Cream – Whenever I experience a little redness on my cheeks, I reach for this prescription-strength cream to treat mild to moderate rosacea. Purchased from my esthetician, I keep it in my medicine cabinet. I do not use it on nights when I’m using retinol. It is best to alternate nights and not aggravate my skin. Available through a dermatologist or clinic.
Azelaic Acid treats mildly to moderately inflamed acne and rosacea. For acne, it works by killing the bacteria that cause acne, and by keeping pores clean.
Step 3: Moisturize
Santa Maria Novella Noni Night Cream – An extremely indulgent night cream but I’ve needed it lately. This ultra-rich and thick cream acts as a barrier to lock in serums or other treatments and leaves my skin feeling deeply softened and protected like a warm blanket. $190 at Santa Maria Novella.
Noni Extract is derived from the Noni Fruit and revered for its healing and rejuvenating properties.
Coralline algae: Rich in minerals, amino acids, and vitamins, this marine algae combats dehydration and improves skin texture.
