Examples below of how I shopped my own vintage wardrobe for AW19 fashion trends including 70s Bourgeois, Argyle, Suits, and Quilting.

Last week I put up a blog post of some vintage outfits that I pulled together inspired by current Autumn/Winter 2019 fashion trends. This week, I went back into my vintage collection and put together some outfits following more AW19 fashion trends such as 70’s Bourgeois: 1970’s middle-class, smart attire, Argyle, Suiting, and Quilted fabrics conceptualized as bedding, and bedclothes turned into day clothes.

The 70s is one of my favorite vintage decades so I was well pleased to see this trend still on the runway for another year.

This vintage pleated 1970’s maxi skirt fits right in with the current bourgeoisie trend. I found it at a flea market a couple of years ago for $20. The plaid is lovely, and I really like the metallic gold threads the run through the skirt.

I only own one article of clothing that is argyle and it’s this much-loved vintage find. It’s 100% wool and covered with moth holes but I’ll never get rid of it. It cost $8 and I love its distressed look. I styled it here with a vintage silk blouse, a vintage pearl necklace found in an antique store, and Helmut Lang black trousers.

vintage 1950s bed jacket + Mango blouse + jeans from Anthropologie

I couldn’t have been happier to see bedding worn as day clothes on the runway because I have a couple of 1940s – 1950s bed jackets that I’m always looking to style in a fresh way, as well as a vintage smoking jacket. I styled this vintage pink number over a lacey blouse from Mango, blue jeans from Anthropologie and Steve Madden boots. It is quite a cozy outfit for fall.

I’ve had this vintage blue smoking jacket for about ten years now. I’ve been tempted many times to get it altered to fit me better but I admit I’m happy I never got around to doing it because I much prefer the oversized fit today.

I bought it from a really cool vintage clothing shop in North Carolina called Putting on the RITZ in Winston-Salem. The shop is in a house and the owner specializes in a lot of old Hollywood vintage glamour. I always look forward to browsing his wonderful inventory.

vintage yellow Christian Dior jacket + wide-leg flannel trousers + All Saints flats

I smiled to myself when I saw the yellow suit jacket on the Ralph Lauren runway. Yellow is not my color but the one yellow article of clothing that I own happens to be a vintage Christian Dior suit jacket that I found at Red, White and Blue Thrift for $6. I love the silhouette and design detail in the jacket like the covered buttons but admittingly I don’t reach for it often because it’s yellow. However, I quite like this outfit so that may change. I styled the jacket with a black blouse, wide-leg flannel trousers, and a pair of All Saint’s flats.

vintage 1970s top + Zara suit with satin trim

The blue and gold Sonia Rykiel suit is gorgeous. I have this vintage 70s top from the Disco era and styled it with a black Zara suit with satin detail on the lapels and trim. I also added the Coach sandals with tights in line with the current trend making this a perfect day to night outfit.

Navy blue Zara blazer + vintage black lace top + vintage blue and black lace pants

The red and burgundy Tom Ford suit is stunning. I took that inspiration and suited up this navy blue, double-breasted Zara blazer with a vintage black lace top, and blue and black lace pants. I’ve worn these lace pants on many special occasions. They are a bit sheer so I always wear them with tights and under a long blazer.
