Spring Makeup Favorites – May 2020
Some of the things I love in my current spring makeup routine including some very old favorites as well as a couple of new discoveries.
My spring makeup declutter continues. I have tossed dried up eyeliners, lipsticks in shades that I will never wear, and a couple of eyeshadow palettes that were well past their expiration dates. My makeup drawer is looking clean and organized, and I rediscovered a few old favorites.
Spring Makeup Favorites
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Dewy Primer – This gold shimmer primer adds a subtle glow under foundation. A little goes a long way. It’s lovely. Available at drugstores for $4.99.
Sensai Click Pen Concealer – Similar to YSL’s Touche éclat is this creamy concealer wand. I bought mine from Neiman Marcus. They recently filed Chapter 11 and it’s no longer available on the website. Touche éclat is available at Sephora and is more brightening than this one from Sensai.
Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick – I hadn’t used a stick foundation since high school until I discovered this one a few years ago. I love its creamy texture and medium coverage. I never would have thought this would work for my dry skin but it’s emollient and blends beautifully with a sponge. Available at Sephora in many shades.
NARS Laguna Bronzer – A cult favorite. I tend to reach for my Butter Bronzer more often but I’m making a concerted effort to get more use out of this cheek palette from NARS. Available as a single bronzer at Sephora.
Burt’s Bees Blush in Shy Pink – I adore these blushes in the Burt’s Bees range. They are of high quality and last for ages. This shade is subtle and pretty. Available at drugstores for $9.99.
Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion – A longtime favorite, this primer keeps eye shadow looks in place especially now that temperatures are on the rise. Available at Ulta.
Lime Crime Venus Palette – I’m crazy about this little palette of cool-toned neutral shades and a couple of shimmer shades. I cannot locate this exact palette online but a similar one is available at Ulta for $38.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Zero – A longtime favorite is this creamy, jet-black eyeliner. Available at Sephora for $22.
Eyeliner Pro Tip
Two things every makeup user of any age should avoid when using eyeliner. 1. Never leave a visible gap of skin between the liner and lash line. Make sure to smudge eyeliner into the lash line. 2. Always blend out jagged liner. Use a stiff pencil brush to blend eyeliner into the upper lash line and smoke it out.
MAC Stone Lip Liner – I’ve been using this as a brow pencil lately. It has an ash undertone and is suitable for filling in my brows. It’s my favorite lip liner and since I own two, I’d like to use up one. Available at MAC.
Essence Lashes of the Day Super Volume Mascara – I’m working through all the mascaras Essence has to offer. This is number five or six and it’s a good one. Gives long and wispy lashes. Available at Ulta for $4.99.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rum Raisin – I love this pink/brown shade. It’s a classic. Available at drugstores for $4.99.
